Logistics Planning and Industrial Engineering

At Volkswagen Group Services, we support the Volkswagen Group with efficient logistics solutions, from analysis to implementation.

Our focus is on the continuous improvement of processes based on real data and decision-support technology.

What we do

Analysis and optimisation of logistics processes

We study and redesign logistics flows to make them more efficient, using detailed data along with simulation and visualization tools.

Data-driven planning

We identify critical points and improve processes supported by realistic modeling technology (e.g., warehouse flows, internal transport, equipment).

Process analyses using the MTM method

We evaluate execution times and workplace ergonomics to improve productivity and well-being.

Calculation of logistics requirements

We determine the human resources, space, IT, and equipment needed for each project.

Decision support and tenders

We prepare technical specifications and tender documents, helping clients make informed investment decisions.

Materials Logistics

The automotive industry demands increasing speed, flexibility, and efficiency in materials management. With the growing complexity of products and the variety of variants, it is essential to constantly adapt logistics processes.

Since 2001, Volkswagen Group Services has been a trusted partner in managing demanding logistics processes – with tailored solutions for each client.

What we do

Inbound and outbound goods

Efficient management of material receiving, shipping, and control.

Inventory management and stock planning

Accurate planning to ensure availability and minimize waste.

Consignment and sequencing

Preparation of materials in the right order and at the right time (JIT/JIS).

(Re)packaging and unpacking

Adapting materials to production needs.

Empty container management

Monitoring and optimizing the use of reusable packaging.

Internal transport

Coordination of flows within the facilities.

Automotive Vehicle Transshipment

As a reliable and flexible partner, we ensure daily, with specialized teams, the efficient shipment of vehicles from the factories.

From receiving at the production line to loading onto trucks, trains, and ships, we manage the entire logistics process, including compliance with TQS standards, load security checks, maintenance, and records in the ATLAS system.

We continuously work on process and route optimization, avoiding empty trips and adapting to the production schedule. We invest in digitalization, using HDTs and tablets to increase efficiency and improve system use by the teams.

What we do

Special Logistics

We support the development process. The handling of prototype parts and vehicles as well as customized logistics is one of our core competencies.

However, the specialty of special logistics lies not only in supporting the development process. Services in the area of pre-series/series production (e.g. material flow control for plant construction) are also part of our portfolio and showcase our broad range of services.

Control Logistics

We support the operational logistics chain in the areas of planning, control, and sustainable optimisation (support for suppliers and freight forwarders). This includes services such as control centres, control stations, delivery note verifications, and scheduling activities.

The activities of the Logistics Control division help reduce downtime and reliably lower costs, immobilisation, storage, and handling expenses. Additionally, the Logistics Control division continues to evolve and adapt to new circumstances. For example, artificial intelligence has been implemented, which will assist employees in verifying shipping documents in the future.
